Lakewood Gardens was once a small community in Palm Beach County, Florida, in the United States. It was known as a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it was an area defined by the government just for counting people during a census. It was not an officially organized town or city.
In 2010, about 1,273 people lived in Lakewood Gardens. However, in 2011, the area became part of a nearby village called Palm Springs. This process is called "annexation." Now, Lakewood Gardens is one of the many neighborhoods within Palm Springs.

What is a Census-Designated Place?
A census-designated place, or CDP, is a special type of area. It is created by the United States Census Bureau. The main reason for a CDP is to collect population data. This data is used for the U.S. Census.
CDPs look like towns or cities. However, they do not have their own local government. They are not officially incorporated. This means they don't have a mayor or city council. Instead, they are usually governed by the county.
Becoming Part of a Village
In 2011, Lakewood Gardens was "annexed" by the village of Palm Springs. Annexation is when a city or town expands its borders. It takes over a nearby area. This usually happens to areas that are not incorporated.
When an area is annexed, the people living there become residents of the larger city or town. They then receive services from that city. These services can include police, fire protection, and trash collection. They also follow the rules and laws of the new city.
Lakewood Gardens Today
Today, Lakewood Gardens is a neighborhood within Palm Springs. It is no longer a separate census-designated place. Its history shows how communities can change over time. It also shows how areas are counted and organized in the United States.
