Lamar was a small village located in Chase County, Nebraska, in the United States. In 2010, 23 people lived there. By 2020, the population had grown slightly to 28 people. However, on November 5, 2024, the people of Lamar voted to unincorporate. This means it is no longer officially a village with its own local government.

History of Lamar

Lamar was first established in 1887. This happened when the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad built its tracks through the area. Railroads were very important back then for travel and moving goods.

The village was named after a person called Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar II. He was an important figure in American history. He served as a United States Secretary of the Interior, which is a high-ranking job in the U.S. government. He also worked as a diplomat, helping with relations between countries.

A post office opened in Lamar in 1887. It helped people send and receive mail. This post office stayed open for many years until it closed in 1995.
