Lamar Patterson, born on August 12, 1991, is an American professional basketball player. He used to play for the South West Metro Pirates team in Australia. Before becoming a pro, he played college basketball for the Pittsburgh Panthers.

College Basketball Journey
Lamar Patterson is a 6-foot-5-inch player from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He was a star player at J. P. McCaskey High School and later at Saint Benedict's Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey. He decided to play college basketball for the Pitt Panthers.
Freshman Year and Injury
During his first year, Lamar hurt his ankle in a game in November 2009. Because of this injury, he missed most of the season. He was given a "medical redshirt," which means he didn't lose a year of college eligibility.
Becoming a Key Player
Lamar returned to play for the 2010–11 season. He became an important player for the Panthers. In his second year, he became a starter and greatly improved his scoring. He helped his team win the 2012 College Basketball Invitational title. Lamar was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of that tournament.
Senior Season Success
As a junior, Lamar helped the Panthers get back to the NCAA tournament. For his senior year, the Panthers joined a new league, the Atlantic Coast Conference. Lamar had an amazing season, becoming one of the best players in the league. His scoring average jumped to 17.1 points per game. At the end of the season, he was named to the second-team All-ACC.
Professional Basketball Career
Starting in the NBA Draft
On June 26, 2014, Lamar Patterson was chosen by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2014 NBA draft. He was the 48th player picked overall. Soon after, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks. In July 2014, he played for the Hawks in the NBA Summer League.
Playing in Turkey
On August 5, 2014, Lamar signed with Tofaş, a team in the Turkish Basketball League (TBL). He played 29 games for Tofaş in the 2014–15 season. He averaged 11.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.
Time with the Atlanta Hawks
On July 24, 2015, Lamar signed with the Atlanta Hawks after playing well in the Summer League. He made his NBA debut on October 27, 2015. During his first season, he also played for the Austin Spurs and Canton Charge in the NBA Development League. The Hawks let him go on July 12, 2016.
He was briefly picked up by the Sacramento Kings but was waived before the season started.
Back to the G League and Hawks
On October 31, 2016, Lamar joined the Reno Bighorns in the NBA Development League. On January 29, 2017, he signed a 10-day contract to return to the Atlanta Hawks. He signed another 10-day contract, but then returned to Reno. A few days later, he signed a multi-year contract with the Hawks. However, he was waived again shortly after to deal with a personal matter. He then rejoined the Bighorns.
Playing Around the World
After his time in the NBA G League, Lamar played for several teams in different countries:
- In June 2017, he played for Santeros de Aguada in Puerto Rico.
- On July 31, 2017, he signed with Fiat Torino, an Italian team.
- On May 24, 2018, he joined Lhasa Pure Land in the Chinese National Basketball League.
Success in Australia and China
On October 31, 2018, Lamar signed with the Brisbane Bullets in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL). He had a great season and was named to the All-NBL First Team. He averaged 17.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.
In May 2019, he returned to China to play for Wuhan Dangdai. He then re-signed with the Brisbane Bullets for the 2019–20 NBL season and was again named to the All-NBL First Team.
More International Play
On February 16, 2020, Lamar signed with Piratas de Quebradillas in Puerto Rico. The season was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but he rejoined the team later and helped them reach the finals.
On August 4, 2020, Lamar signed with the New Zealand Breakers for the 2020–21 NBL season. He struggled with a knee injury and was released by the team on March 16, 2021.
Return to Brisbane and NBL1
On March 17, 2021, Lamar signed with the Brisbane Bullets again for the rest of the 2020–21 NBL season. He averaged 14.2 points per game. After the NBL season, he played for the Southern Districts Spartans in the NBL1 North league.
He re-signed with the Bullets for the 2021–22 season. After that NBL season, he played for the Gold Coast Rollers in the NBL1 North. He also had a short time playing in Puerto Rico for Cariduros de Fajardo. He then rejoined the Rollers and helped them win the 2022 NBL1 North championship.
In December 2022, Lamar signed with the South West Metro Pirates for the 2023 NBL1 North season. He re-signed with them in November 2023 for the 2024 season.

Lamar Patterson played a total of 40 regular season games in the NBA. He averaged 2.3 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. He also played in 4 playoff games, averaging 1.5 points.
