The Bainsford Bridge

A bridge crosses the Forth and Clyde Canal in Bainsford. The first bridge here was a bascule bridge. This type of bridge can open to let boats pass.

In 1905, a new bridge was built. It was a heavier swing bridge. This was needed for a new tramway. A swing bridge also opens, but it turns to the side. Later, this was replaced by a road bridge that does not open.
