Who Was Langston Hughes?
This neighborhood is named after Langston Hughes. He was a very important black poet and novelist. He lived from 1902 to 1967. He was a central figure in the Harlem Renaissance. This was a time when black artists, writers, and musicians created amazing works. Langston Hughes Elementary School is also in the neighborhood. It is located at 5011 Arbutus Avenue.
