Lantana is a special kind of community called a census-designated place (CDP) in Denton County, Texas. It's a master-planned community, which means it was carefully designed before being built. Lantana is about 8 miles (13 km) south of Denton.

This community started in 2001. By 2020, its population grew to 10,785 people. Many families live here. Lantana has won awards for being a great community. It often hosts fun events like outdoor concerts and festivals for everyone.

The Story of Lantana

Lantana was built on a large piece of land. This land used to belong to the Rayzor family. In 1999, the idea for Lantana began. Construction officially started on March 16, 2000.

The very first residents moved into their new homes on July 31, 2001. Over time, the community continued to grow. In 2014, a company called Forestar Group took over the final development. They helped finish building the rest of the community.

Life in Lantana

Lantana is designed with many homes built around a beautiful 18-hole golf course. This golf course was created by a famous designer named Jay Morrish. The Lantana Golf Club opened in 2003. It became a private club in 2009.

Community Fun and Management

Lantana is known for its many community events. These events help neighbors get to know each other. You might find outdoor music, chili cook-offs, or picnics in the parks.

The community also has a group called the Lantana Community Association. This group helps manage the community. They make sure things like security and front yard maintenance are taken care of. They also manage the fun amenities for residents.

Important Services

Residents in Lantana pay a yearly fee for fire and emergency medical services (EMS). This fee goes to the Argyle Volunteer Fire Department. This helps keep everyone in the community safe.

Most of Denton County, including Lantana, is also served by North Central Texas College. This college offers higher education opportunities.

Lantana even has a special sky/weather camera. It looks over a park and pool in the Larkspur neighborhood. Sometimes, this camera is shown on the local news channel KDFW during weather reports.

Lantana first appeared as a special census area in the 2010 U.S. Census. Its population has grown quite a bit since then.

In 2010, there were 6,874 people living in Lantana. By 2020, the population had increased to 10,785. This shows that many people are choosing to make Lantana their home. The community is also home to people from many different backgrounds.
