Larchmont Harbor is a natural bay. A bay is a part of a sea or lake that extends into the land. It offers a sheltered area of water. This makes it a safe place for boats to anchor and for people to enjoy water sports.
Where is it Located?
This harbor is found in Westchester County, New York. It is specifically within the village of Larchmont. The harbor is nestled between two land points: Long Beach Point and Umbrella Point. It is also north of the famous Execution Rocks lighthouse.
What Can You Do There?
Larchmont Harbor is home to the Larchmont Yacht Club. This club is a center for sailing and other water activities. During the summer, the harbor fills up with many boats. You will see lots of small yachts tied to mooring buoys. These buoys keep the boats safely in place.
The water in Larchmont Harbor varies in depth. Near the entrance, it can be about 12 feet deep. Closer to the shore, the depth is around 6 feet. The entrance to the harbor has a special feature called Hen and Chickens. This is a reef that can be seen at low tide. Boats can enter the harbor on either side of this reef. The eastern entrance is about 300 yards wide.
