Early life and beginnings
Lark Holloway was born in Nashville, Tennessee, to Wayne and Tricia Holloway. She later chose "Voorhies" as her stage name. Her mother named her "Lark" after a character in the 1972 movie Cool Breeze. When Lark was two years old, her family moved to Pasadena, California.
Her mother took her to a talent agent when she was young. Lark appeared in a national TV commercial for Universal Studios Tour at age 12. This commercial was for the new King Kong attraction. She enjoyed the experience, saying she had "a great time" screaming on the tram with other people.
Entertainment career highlights
Acting roles and TV shows
Lark Voorhies started acting at a very young age. Her mother paused her acting career for a while because Lark was shy. Later, at age fourteen, Voorhies appeared on an episode of Small Wonder in 1988.
In June 1988, she got the part of Lisa Turtle in the Disney Channel series Good Morning, Miss Bliss. She was in thirteen episodes of this show. When Disney stopped the series, NBC picked it up and changed it, renaming it Saved by the Bell. Lark continued to play Lisa Turtle, along with other characters like Zack, Screech, and Mr. Belding.
After Saved by the Bell, Voorhies appeared in many other TV shows. She played Wendy Reardon on Days of Our Lives in 1993. She also played Jasmine Malone, a friendly fashion designer, on The Bold and the Beautiful starting in 1995.
In 1995, Voorhies was a guest star in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Life Support". That same year, she appeared in the Family Matters episode "Home Sweet Home". She continued to act in various roles, including In the House, where she played the girlfriend and later wife of Alfonso Ribeiro’s character. She had also played Ribeiro's love interest twice before on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Besides TV shows, Voorhies also acted in movies. In 2001, she had a big role in the film How High as Lauren, a Harvard student. She also appeared in The Black Man's Guide to Understanding Black Women (1990) and The Next Hit (2008).
In 2020, NBC announced that Lark Voorhies would return as Lisa Turtle for the new Saved by the Bell sequel series on Peacock.
Music career
Lark Voorhies has also been in several music videos. She played Kenny Lattimore's love interest in his 1996 video "Never Too Busy". She was also in Boyz II Men's music video "On Bended Knee" as Wanya's girlfriend. You can also see her in Montell Jordan's "Somethin' for the Honeyz" and Dru Hill's "These Are the Times".
In 1994, Voorhies was part of a group called the X-Girls, which is now known as Geneva. She also started and was the lead singer of Third Degree, an alternative band.
