About Larry Clark
Early Life and Education
Larry Clark grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. He earned his first college degree from Miami University. After that, he went to the UCLA. There, he studied film. While he was a student at UCLA, Clark taught film workshops. He helped students learn about filmmaking at the Performing Arts Society of Los Angeles (PASLA).
Making Movies
Larry Clark worked as a cinematographer for the 1972 film Wattstax. A cinematographer is the person who is in charge of the camera and lighting. His memories of making Wattstax are even on the special DVD of the film. He shared stories with other people who worked on the movie.
Passing Through Film
Passing Through was Larry Clark's final project film for his master's degree at UCLA. The movie stars Nathaniel Taylor, who was famous for playing Rollo on the TV show Sanford and Son. It also featured the experienced actor Clarence Muse. Larry Clark helped write the story for the film with actor Ted Lange. One film critic called Passing Through a "powerful and realistic film" about life in Los Angeles.
