Early Life and Baseball Beginnings

Larry Demery grew up in Bakersfield, California. His dad, Art Demery, was also a professional baseball player! Larry played baseball in high school. He attended Wasco High School and later Locke High School in Los Angeles.

While in high school, Larry was an amazing pitcher. He even threw two "no-hitters." A no-hitter is when a pitcher plays an entire game without letting the other team get any hits. After high school, he continued playing baseball in college at Los Angeles City College.

Becoming a Professional Player

The Pittsburgh Pirates picked Larry to play for them in the 1972 baseball draft. This is how many young players start their journey to the major leagues. He began his professional career that same year with the Gastonia Pirates.

Larry worked hard in the minor leagues. He spent most of the next season in the Carolina League. He showed his talent by completing many games as a pitcher.

Major League Career with the Pirates

Later Years
