Larry Roberts (born September 28, 1926 – died July 17, 1992) was an American actor. He was most famous for being the voice of Tramp, the clever dog, in the classic Disney movie Lady and the Tramp. While he had other small roles, his voice work as Tramp is what most people remember him for.

His Early Life
Larry Roberts was born Lawrence Saltzman on September 28, 1926. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and was the only child of Robert and Mabel Saltzman.
During World War II, Larry served in the United States Army. He was part of General Patton's Third Army. He served in countries like France, Germany, and Austria.
After his time in the military, Larry visited Los Angeles. He decided to stay and help start a theater group called the Circle Theatre. He performed with this group, using the name Larry Salters. In 1947, he acted in their first play, Ethan Frome. He appeared in many of their early shows.
In 1949, Larry helped create another important theater group in Hollywood. It was called the Players Ring. It was during his time on stage that a Disney story writer saw him. This led to him being chosen for the voice of Tramp.
Main Career and Helping Troops
Larry Roberts was very active during the Korean War. He often went on USO tours. These tours helped entertain soldiers serving overseas. The troops really enjoyed his performances.
In 1955, Larry received a "Certificate of Esteem." This award was given to him by United States Secretary of Defense Charles E. Wilson. It recognized his great efforts in entertaining the troops.
Larry was also a popular guest on early television shows. He appeared on programs like Lights, Camera, Action! and Bandstand Revue. He also performed as a stand-up comedian in Las Vegas. Larry also recorded several songs in the 1950s. Some of his songs included "April in Portugal" and "Tell Me a Story."
Later Years and Passing
Larry Roberts stopped acting in the mid-1950s. He moved back to Cleveland and changed his last name back to Salters. He then started a new career in the ladies' clothing business.
He first worked for a company called Bobbie Brooks, Inc. Later, he moved to New York City. There, he became a designer for another clothing company, Russ Togs.
Larry Roberts passed away on July 17, 1992, in New York City. He was 65 years old.
