Larry Shaw is a politician from the United States. He was a member of the Democratic Party. He served in the government of North Carolina for many years.
Mr. Shaw represented people in Cumberland County in the North Carolina Senate. He was a Senator from 1995 to 2011. Before that, he was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives for one term. In 2010, Mr. Shaw decided not to run for re-election.
For a time, Larry Shaw was the highest-ranking Muslim elected official in the United States. This was before Keith Ellison was elected to represent a district in Minnesota.
Mr. Shaw also served on the National Board of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). This group works to promote understanding and civil rights for American Muslims. He became the chairman of the board in 2009.
In 2010, he started hosting an internet radio show. The show was on American Muslim 360 and talked about current events.
As of 2017, Mr. Shaw works as a golf coach. He coaches at Sanderson High School in Raleigh, North Carolina.
