Her Music Journey
Starting Young
Latrelle began singing in church when she was a little kid. She loved music and wanted to become a singer. With her mom, Aleese Simmons, who was also an R&B singer and her manager, Latrelle started recording her own songs at age sixteen.
She performed at Montana studios in New York City. Many record labels, like Sony Columbia and Motown, were interested in her. She then met Tracey and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, who are famous music producers. They were very impressed and helped her get a contract with Arista Records.
Writing Songs and First Album
When she was a teenager, Latrelle wrote songs for popular groups like Destiny's Child and Mary Mary. She also wrote for singers like Monica.
At 19, Latrelle recorded her first album, called Dirty Girl, Wrong Girl, Bad Girl. It was supposed to come out in October 2001, but it was never officially released. Her first song, "House Party," was produced by The Neptunes. They also produced other songs on her album. Latrelle has worked with The Neptunes many times since then.
Other producers like Babyface also helped with her album. Most of the songs were written or co-written by Latrelle and her mom. The album even had songs that were later recorded by other stars. For example, "Nothin' Else" was recorded by Justin Timberlake. Also, "Long Time" was recorded by Shakira.
Singles and Later Work
The first song from her album, "Dirty Girl," was released. A different version with rapper Left Eye was also put out. This song was played a lot in clubs. In December 2001, "House Party" came out as her next single. It became a small hit on the Hip-Hop/R&B music charts.
After leaving Arista Records, Latrelle recorded new music. She even started her own music company, AMI Music Group. She has also worked with P. Diddy. In 2011, she had a small hit song called "We Got Music" on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. More recently, she has been performing under the name MzMunchie.
