Village History
Laura was first planned and settled around the year 1840. A post office, which helps send mail, started operating in Laura in 1850. The village got its name from Laura, who was the daughter of the very first postmaster. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office. Laura officially became an incorporated village in 1892. This means it became an official town with its own local government.
