Laura Buckley (born 1977, died 2022) was a talented artist from Ireland. She created amazing art using videos, sculptures, and special installations that you could walk into. Laura was born in Galway, Ireland, but she lived and worked in London, England. Her art was shown in many places, both in the UK and around the world.

Laura Buckley's Early Life and Education

Laura Buckley was born in County Galway, Ireland. She grew up in a small town there. After finishing her studies at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) in Dublin in 2000, she moved to London. In 2007, she earned her Master of Arts (MA) degree from the Chelsea College of Art and Design. An MA is a special advanced degree you can get after college.

How Laura Buckley Created Art

Laura Buckley used many different ways to make her art. She worked with "moving images" (like videos), "kinetics" (art that moves), sound, light, sculptures, and digital prints. She once told a magazine called Bomb that she stopped painting with brushes and started "painting with light."

Laura hoped her art would make people feel "a connection" and "less alone." One art review described her installations as having many different parts. These parts created the detailed layers for her sound, video, and sculpture artworks.

Laura Buckley's Art Career and Exhibitions

One of Laura Buckley's most famous artworks was called Fata Morgana. It was a "dazzling and disorientating" installation that looked like a giant kaleidoscope. You could actually walk inside it! She created Fata Morgana for a place called Cell Project Space in 2012. It was so popular that it was shown again in 2019 at the Saatchi Gallery as part of a group exhibition called Kaleidoscope.

Laura also showed her art at Mother's Tankstation in Dublin in 2010. In 2016, she was part of an exhibition called Into Boundless Space I Leap at the University of Cambridge. This show was inspired by the work of a Scottish scientist named James Clerk Maxwell. That same year, she also exhibited at Art House, which was a unique 'beach house' built on a roof in Hackney.

Laura often worked with other artists on exhibitions and performances. She collaborated with Kim Coleman at Block 336 in 2016. She also worked with Paul Purgas at the Whitechapel Gallery in 2015, and Dan Coopey at Turner Contemporary in 2013. Earlier, in 2009, she collaborated with Dave MacLean and Haroon Mirza at Rokeby.

Some of Laura Buckley's artworks are now part of the Zabludowicz Collection, which is a well-known art collection.
