Laura Wee Láy Láq facts for kids
Laura Wee Láy Láq (born in 1952) is a talented artist from the Sto:lo Nation. She is a sculptor who works with clay, a teacher, and someone who helps protect her culture. She is a member of the Tzeachten First Nation, also known as the Ch'iyaqtel people. Her family's special name for her is Lumlamelut.
Laura Wee Láy Láq is famous for making pottery by hand. She uses old ways of firing her clay, including a special method called Raku. In 2015, she received the Fulmer Award for First Nations Art in BC, which is a very important award.

Learning About Art
Laura Wee Láy Láq started her art journey by studying fine arts. From 1970 to 1973, she learned from Fred Owen at Douglas College in New Westminster, BC. Fred Owen was the person who started the ceramics department there. After that, she studied ceramics at the Vancouver School of Art. She finished her studies with high honors in 1977.

Exhibitions and Shows
- In 2004, her ceramic pieces were part of a show called Hot Clay: Sixteen West Coast Ceramic Artists. This exhibition was held at the Surrey Art Gallery and was put together by Carol E. Mayer.
- She also took part in the Border Zones: New Art Across Cultures exhibition. This show was at the University of British Columbia's Museum of Anthropology. It happened around the same time as the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
- More recently, in 2023, Laura Wee Láy Láq's art was featured in the Apparition Room exhibition. This show was at The Western Front and celebrated the organization's 50th birthday.
