A Look Back at Laurel Hill Plantation

The Laurel Hill Plantation was once a big property on Lady's Island. It covered about 368 acres, which is like 368 football fields! A man named Girard B. Henderson used to own it. The plantation was located on Sam's Point Road.

What Was Grown There?

This plantation was special because it focused on something called truck farming. Truck farming means growing fruits, vegetables, and flowers to sell. These crops were grown to make money, just like a business.

What is There Now?

Today, the land that was once Laurel Hill Plantation has changed. It has a small grass airfield, which was once called Laurel Hill Plantation Airport. There are also homes and other buildings on the property. In 1997, the Laurel Hill Plantation was sold to a company called Homestake Realty Company. After the sale, the area was renamed Coosaw Point.
