Lauren Scott is a strong supporter of civil rights. In 2009, she started an organization called Equality Nevada, Inc. She was its leader until 2015. This group worked to make sure that all people, including those who are LGBTQ, have equal rights in Nevada. Equality Nevada was recognized as one of the best local organizations in Northern Nevada.

Scott also supported changing a military rule called "Don't ask, don't tell" in 2010. This rule prevented openly gay and lesbian people from serving in the military. It was later found to be against the US Constitution.

In 2011, Scott continued her work for civil rights in Nevada. She worked with groups like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Together, they helped pass new laws that protected the rights of transgender people in Nevada for the first time. Her efforts have been recognized by both the Nevada Assembly and the Senate.

In 2013, Scott spoke in favor of a bill called SB139. This bill aimed to add "gender identity and expression" to the state's hate crime laws. This means that crimes against people because of their gender identity would be taken very seriously. Governor Brian Sandoval signed this bill into law in May 2013.

Life and Career

After working as an Electrical Design Manager, Lauren Scott started a new chapter in her life in 1999. She also helped start a company that made special power supplies. This company was later bought and renamed Gripping Power, Inc.

In 2007, she worked as an electrical systems engineer at Biodiesel Solutions. When that company closed in 2008, she began working as a consultant. She helped businesses with their development and with renewable energy projects. In 2013, she founded her own company, Alkcon Corporation, and became its president and CEO.
