Staff Sergeant facts for kids
A Staff Sergeant is an important leader in the military. It is a special rank for a non-commissioned officer. These officers are not generals or high-ranking commanders. Instead, they are experienced leaders who guide and train soldiers, marines, or airmen. This rank is used in many countries around the world.
The idea for the Staff Sergeant rank started a long time ago in the British Army. These sergeants were part of the main "staff" of a large group of soldiers called a regiment. They had special duties and were paid differently than other soldiers in smaller groups.
