Sergeant First Class is an important military rank used in armies and other uniformed groups around the world. It is usually a senior leader who helps guide and train soldiers. These leaders are called non-commissioned officers, or NCOs. They are very experienced and play a big role in how the army works every day.
Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army
In the U.S. Army, Sergeant First Class (often called SFC) is a high rank for enlisted soldiers. It is the seventh rank for enlisted people, known as E-7.
- An SFC is above a Staff Sergeant.
- An SFC is below a Master Sergeant or a First Sergeant.
This rank is the first one considered a "senior" non-commissioned officer. This means soldiers at this rank have a lot of experience. They are trusted to lead many soldiers and help make important decisions. They are key leaders in their units.
