Laurence Bougault (born August 25, 1970, in Toulouse – died October 26, 2018, in Rennes) was a French writer and university professor. She was also well-known for her incredible long-distance adventures riding horses across different countries.

Laurence Bougault loved literature and studied it at university. She earned her Ph.D. in French literature from the University of Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3. Her special project was about "Cosmos and Logos in Modern Poetry."

In 1998, she became a professor at the University of Rennes. Later, in 2005, she started leading research at Sorbonne University. She also helped other students with their own research projects.

Laurence wrote many poems and essays about literature. She also published educational books. Her work often explored how beauty and good values connect in writing. She also looked at how sentence choices change the meaning in modern poems.

In 2004, she started the International Stylistic Association (AIS). This group brought together language researchers. Its goal was to help people learn more about their work. People said she helped make this field of study stronger.

Amazing Horseback Journeys

From a very young age, Laurence Bougault loved horses. She became passionate about long-distance travel on horseback. Her adventures began in 1997 with a trip to Mongolia.

Her first big endurance trip was in 2001. She rode across southeast Africa. She started in Lesotho, went through South Africa, and rode north to Malawi. This journey was about 3,300 kilometers (2,050 miles) long. It took her eight months to complete! She rode with two Basuto ponies, which are known for being very strong and brave. After this amazing trip, she wrote a book about it called Under the Eye of African Horses.

Later, Laurence started raising a special and rare type of horse called the Akhal-Teke. These horses come from Turkmenistan. They are prized for their strength, intelligence, and their unique shiny coats.

In 2009, she went on another huge trip. She rode an Akhal-Teke horse from Isfahan, Iran, all the way to Paris, France. This journey was about 6,500 kilometers (4,039 miles) long! She crossed through Turkey, Greece, and Italy before reaching Paris in less than six months. She was even interviewed when she got close to Paris, in a place called Fontainebleau.

Her Last Years

Laurence Bougault passed away from an illness on October 26, 2018, in Rennes. She was 48 years old. She is remembered by her son and her parents.
