Lawrence Gilliard Jr. (born September 22, 1971) is an American actor. He has starred in many movies, TV shows, and plays. He is well-known for playing D'Angelo Barksdale in the HBO drama series The Wire. People really liked his performance in that role.
He is also famous for his part as Bob Stookey in the AMC horror drama The Walking Dead. Lawrence Gilliard Jr. was also in the HBO TV series The Deuce. This show started in September 2017 and finished in October 2019. He has acted in movies like Straight Out of Brooklyn (1991), Next Stop Wonderland (1998), and Gangs of New York (2002).

Early Life and Education
Lawrence Gilliard Jr. was born in New York City. When he was seven years old, his family moved to Baltimore, Maryland.
Gilliard played the clarinet and studied classical music. He went to the Baltimore School for the Arts. Famous classmates there included Jada Pinkett Smith and Tupac Shakur.
After studying clarinet at Juilliard School for three years, Gilliard decided to become an actor. He also learned acting at other schools. These included the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Stella Adler Conservatory.
Acting Career
Gilliard's first movie role was in 1991. He played the main character, Dennis Brown, in the independent film Straight Out of Brooklyn.
He has appeared in many TV crime dramas. Some of these include Law & Order, Homicide: Life on the Street, and CSI: NY. He also had roles in movies. He played a college football player in The Waterboy (1998). He was also a member of the Dead Rabbits in Gangs of New York (2002).
Gilliard is also a stage actor. He received good reviews for his role as Booth. This was in a play called Topdog/Underdog, which won a special award. He became a regular cast member on The Walking Dead. On that show, he played the character Bob Stookey.
