About Layla Saad's Early Life

Layla Saad was born and grew up in Wales. Her mother was from Zanzibar, Tanzania, and her father was from Mombasa, Kenya. They both moved to Wales, where they met.

As a child, Layla also lived in Tanzania and Swindon, United Kingdom. She loved reading detective stories. When she was 15, her family moved to Qatar. Later, she returned to the United Kingdom for university. She studied at Lancaster University and earned a degree in Law.

Layla Saad's Career and Books

In 2017, Layla Saad wrote a blog post called "I Need to Talk to Spiritual White Women About White Supremacy". Some people liked it, but others disagreed.

In 2018, she started a challenge on Instagram called #MeAndWhiteSupremacy. This challenge asked people to think about how they relate to white supremacy for 28 days. White supremacy is the idea that white people are better than people of other races. The challenge became very popular, especially among teachers.

After the challenge, Layla wrote an online guide called Me and White Supremacy Workbook. Over six months, 100,000 people downloaded it. Famous people like Anne Hathaway and Elizabeth Gilbert supported the workbook.

The Book Me and White Supremacy

In 2020, the online workbook became Layla Saad's first book, also called Me and White Supremacy. The book quickly became very popular. On February 16, 2020, it reached number 10 on The New York Times Best Seller list.

After the murder of George Floyd in May 2020 and the protests that followed, many people wanted to learn more about race. Sales of books about race, including Layla's book, increased a lot. On July 12, 2020, Me and White Supremacy reached number five on the New York Times Hardcover Nonfiction list. It was also number three on the Sunday Times Bestsellers list in the UK. On Audible, a website for audiobooks, it was the sixth best-selling non-fiction book.

Layla Saad is also planning a special version of her book for young readers.

Good Ancestor Podcast

Layla Saad also has a podcast called Good Ancestor Podcast. On her show, she talks to people about "ancestors." These are people, either in their family or in society, who have inspired them.

Layla Saad lives in Doha, Qatar. She is married and has two children, named Maya and Mohamed. Layla is a Muslim.
