Layton Hills Mall is a large indoor shopping mall in Layton, Utah, United States. It first opened in 1980. The mall has big stores called anchor stores, which help attract many shoppers. Its main anchor stores are Dick's Sporting Goods, Dillard's, and JCPenney. The company that owns the mall is CBL & Associates Properties.
History of the Mall
Layton Hills Mall opened in 1980. When it first started, it had a store called Mervyn's. It also had three local department stores: Zions Cooperative Mercantile Institution (ZCMI), Castletons, and Auerbach's.
Early Changes
Just one year after opening, the Auerbach's store closed. It was replaced by a store called The Bon Marché. Castletons closed its doors in 1987. That space later became a sports store, and now it holds the mall's Food Gallery and a place called SeaQuest Interactive Aquarium.
The Bon Marché store closed in May 1993. Later that year, in November 1993, JCPenney moved into the old Bon Marché building. JCPenney used to be in a separate store in Bountiful.
New Owners and Stores
In 2001, ZCMI sold its stores to Meier & Frank. Then, in 2006, Meier & Frank was sold to Macy's. Also in 2001, the mall grew bigger and added 28 more stores.
CBL & Associates Properties bought the mall in 2005. Mervyn's closed its store in 2008. In 2011, the old Mervyn's building was updated. It became Dick's Sporting Goods on the lower floor and new mall shops on the upper floor.
Recent Updates
In 2017, Macy's announced that its store at Layton Hills Mall would close. The store closed in March 2017. Soon after, work began to prepare for a new Dillard's store to take Macy's place. The Dillard's store opened in the fall of 2017.
In June 2020, it was announced that JCPenney might close its store. However, the Layton Hills Mall JCPenney store was later removed from the closing list. It remains open today.
Food and Fun
The mall has a Food Gallery on its upper level. This area has many places to eat. You can find national restaurants like Chick-fil-A, Dairy Queen, Hot Dog on a Stick, and Subway.
On the lower level, near the center of the mall, there is a special play area for children. This play area is supported by Weber State University.
