Lazzaroni is a famous Italian brand known for its delicious biscuits and bakery products. The company, officially called D. Lazzaroni & C. Spa, makes many tasty treats.
Lazzaroni is especially famous for its Amaretti di Saronno biscuits. It was the first Italian company to start making biscuits using big machines in factories. Lazzaroni has been selling its biscuits and pastries since 1888.
The Story of Lazzaroni
The Lazzaroni family moved to a town called Saronno in Italy around the early 1700s. There, they began making Amaretti di Saronno biscuits by hand. Carlo Lazzaroni started this small business.
His sons, Paolo and Davide, continued the family tradition. Davide kept making amaretti in Saronno. Later, in 1888, Davide's son, Luigi Lazzaroni, joined the company. They officially started a new company called D. Lazzaroni & C. and built a new factory.
In the years that followed, the company became very successful. They made about 350 different kinds of biscuits! Lazzaroni even exported its products all over the world. Their logo, which showed a steam boat, symbolized this global reach. During this time, popular biscuits like Oswego and Nutritivo were first introduced.
In 1984, a large American company called Campbell's bought Lazzaroni. They wanted to help the brand grow even more around the world. Then, in 1991, an Italian company named Citterio bought Lazzaroni.
The company faced some challenges in the 1990s and early 2000s. In 2004, they moved their production to a new factory. In 2008, the Ragosta Group bought Lazzaroni. Their goal was to make the Lazzaroni brand popular again.
Tasty Products
Lazzaroni offers many traditional bakery products. Their "original Amaretti di Saronno" are sold in special tin boxes with pretty pictures on them. They also make many breakfast biscuits, which are called "frollini," and different kinds of pastries.
During holidays, Lazzaroni sells special cakes. These include panettone for Christmas and Colomba Pasquale for Easter. In 2010, the company also started making products that are safe for people who cannot eat gluten.
