Learco Guerra (born October 14, 1902 – died February 7, 1963) was a famous Italian professional cyclist. He is best known for winning the Giro d'Italia race in 1934. He was born in a small town called San Nicolò Po, which is part of Bagnolo San Vito in Lombardy, Italy. People called him the "Human Locomotive" because he was so strong and fast on flat roads.
Before cycling, he tried playing football, but it wasn't his main talent. He became a professional cyclist in 1928 when he was 26 years old. The next year, he became the Italian champion.
In 1930, Learco won his first Italian National Road Race Championships. He won this important title five times in a row! That same year, he finished second in the Tour de France, a very famous race. The French cyclist André Leducq won that race.
In 1931, he won four stages of the Giro d'Italia. He was also the first rider ever to wear the pink jersey in that race, which is given to the overall leader. In the same year, he became the world cycling champion!
In 1933, Learco finished second in the Tour de France again. He also won the Milan–San Remo, another important one-day race. His biggest success came in 1934. He won 10 stages of the Giro d'Italia and the overall race title. He also came second in the world championship that year.
Learco Guerra set a record for the most victories in a single year. This record was not broken until the 1970s. His fame was used by the government at the time to show him as a hero.
After he stopped racing, Learco worked as a team manager. He helped other famous cyclists like Hugo Koblet and Charly Gaul. He later became sick with Parkinson's disease and passed away in Milan in 1963.
