Judge Satterfield's Journey

Judge Satterfield studied at the University of Maryland. He earned a degree in Economics in 1980. Later, he went to George Washington University Law School. He got his law degree there in 1983. A law degree is called a Juris Doctor.

After finishing law school, he worked for a judge. He was a law clerk for Judge Paul R. Webber, III. A law clerk helps a judge with research and writing.

Becoming a D.C. Superior Court Judge

In 1992, President George H. W. Bush chose Satterfield to be a judge. He was nominated for a 15-year term. This was for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

The Senate Committee looked at his nomination. They held a meeting about it in September 1992. The committee then approved his nomination.

On October 8, 1992, the full Senate confirmed him. This means they officially agreed to his appointment. He became an associate judge.

In 2008, Judge Satterfield was chosen for a new role. He became the chief judge of the D.C. Superior Court. This was a four-year term. He was chosen again for a second term in 2012. His second term ended in 2016. He wanted to be chief judge for a third time. However, the Judicial Nomination Commission chose a different judge.
