Leggo is a ghost town located in Yalobusha County, Mississippi, United States. A ghost town is a place where most people have left. It is often left with few or no residents.

This former settlement was about 1 mile (1.6 km) south of Enid Lake. It was also about 10 miles (16 km) west of Water Valley. Leggo became well-known because of a special mineral well nearby.

The Story of Leggo

The story of Leggo began after the American Civil War. A man named W.B. Ford moved to Mississippi from South Carolina. He dug a well to get water for his farm animals. But his cattle would not drink the water. It had too many minerals in it.

A Special Well

People soon believed that the water from "Ford's Well" had healing powers. They thought it could help with different health problems. Because of this, a small community grew up near the well. This community became known as Leggo.

Leggo's Busy Days

Leggo quickly grew into a popular health resort. Many people traveled to Leggo every year. They came to use the water from Ford's Well. Mr. Ford also sold his special water across the southeastern United States.

During its busiest time, Leggo had important services. It had its own school for children. There was also a post office to send and receive mail. A very good hotel welcomed visitors who came to use the well.

What Happened to Leggo?

Over time, Leggo's popularity faded. Today, the area where Leggo once stood is covered by forest. You can still find some signs of its past. The Ford's Well Church and Cemetery are located north of where the settlement used to be. They are a reminder of the town that once thrived around a unique well.
