Enid Lake is a large lake located mostly in Yalobusha County in the U.S. state of Mississippi. Some parts of the lake also stretch into Panola and Lafayette counties. This beautiful lake is well-known for its excellent fishing and for helping to prevent floods.

Fishing Fun at Enid Lake

Enid Lake is a fantastic place for fishing! You can find many types of fish here. Some of the most common fish include crappie, largemouth bass, catfish, and bream.

This lake holds some amazing records for fishing. It's home to the world record for white crappie, which weighed 5 pounds and 3 ounces (about 2.35 kilograms). Enid Lake also holds two Mississippi state records: one for shortnose gar at 5.83 pounds (about 2.64 kilograms) and another for spotted gar at 8.1 pounds (about 3.67 kilograms).

The Enid Dam

The Enid Dam is an important part of Enid Lake. It is an earthen dam, meaning it's built from compacted earth, and it stretches across the Yocona River.

The dam is about 110 feet (34 meters) high. It is also very long, measuring about 8,400 feet (2,560 meters) across its top. The construction of the dam was finished in 1952.

The United States Army Corps of Engineers built the dam. Its main jobs are to control floods and provide a place for people to enjoy outdoor activities. The lake, at its normal level, covers about 6,100 acres (2,469 hectares) of water.
