Leinster is a small town located in the northern Goldfields region of Western Australia. It is about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) east of the Goldfields Highway. The town is part of the Shire of Leonora. It lies about 968 kilometers (601 miles) northeast of Perth, the state capital.

A Town Built for Mining
Leinster was created in 1976 by a company called Agnew Mining. It was built as a special town for miners. These miners worked at the nearby Leinster Nickel Mine and Agnew Gold Mine. The town got its name from a nearby area called Leinster Downs.
What Can You Find in Leinster?
Even though it's a mining town, Leinster has many facilities for its residents. You can find a supermarket and a service station there. There is also a community school for students up to year 12. For younger children, there is a day care center. The town also has a medical center and a tavern.
Sports and Fun in Leinster
Leinster offers many ways to stay active. It has an indoor sports center and a large 50-meter Olympic-sized swimming pool. There is also a smaller baby pool. Other facilities include squash courts and a BMX track. The town has an oval for football and cricket, plus an 18-hole golf course.
Mining Operations
Leinster is mainly known for its mining activities. The Leinster Nickel Mine is a big part of BHP's Nickel West business. In 2006, this mine employed nearly 1,000 workers. It produced a lot of nickel each year.
Gold Mining Near Leinster
Besides nickel, gold has also been mined close to Leinster. The Thunderbox Gold Mine is about 41 kilometers (25 miles) southeast of the town. Gold was mined there from 2002 to 2007. Mining started up again at Thunderbox in 2016.
Leinster Airport
To help with the mining operations, Leinster Airport was built. It is located right next to the mine. This airport helps transport people and supplies for the mining industry.
