The Lemon Drop pepper is a bright and zesty chili pepper. It is also known as Ají Limón or Ají Limo. This pepper has a hot, citrusy taste, almost like a lemon! It's very popular in Peru, where people call it qillu uchu.
The Lemon Drop pepper belongs to the Capsicum baccatum family. It looks like a cone, about 60 mm (2.4 inches) long and 12 mm (0.5 inches) wide. Some peppers might look a bit crinkly.
About the Lemon Drop Plant
Lemon Drop plants are good examples of the Capsicum baccatum species. In their first year, these plants can grow quite tall, reaching between 1.5 to 2 meters (5 to 6.5 feet) high.
The plant grows straight up and has many branches. Its leaves are dark green and quite thin. The flowers are whitish-green and have yellow-green spots at their base.
Growing and Harvesting
The Lemon Drop is a very productive chili plant. One plant can grow over 100 peppers in a single year! After the flowers are pollinated, it takes about 80 days for the peppers to ripen and be ready for harvest.
