Early Life and Nickelodeon Fame
Leon Thomas III was born in Brooklyn, New York City. He started acting on Broadway when he was only 10 years old. In 2003, he played Young Simba in The Lion King. He also appeared in other Broadway shows like Caroline, or Change and The Color Purple.
In 2007, Leon was in the movie August Rush. He also became the singing voice for Tyrone in the animated series The Backyardigans. He guest-starred on other TV shows like Jack's Big Music Show and Just Jordan. He even appeared in an episode of iCarly called "iCarly Saves TV".
His big break came when he played Andre Harris on Victorious. The show started in 2010 and became very popular. Leon also appeared as Andre in the special crossover episode iParty with Victorious, which brought together characters from Victorious and iCarly. Victorious finished in 2013.
Music Career and Producing Hits
While on Victorious, Leon Thomas III also worked on his own music. In 2012, he released his first mixtape called Metro Hearts. It included his own songs and a cover of Drake's "Take Care" with his Victorious co-star Ariana Grande.
Leon is also a talented songwriter and producer. He worked with Ariana Grande on her 2013 album Yours Truly. He helped write and produce several songs on that album. He also worked on songs for Toni Braxton and Babyface's Grammy-winning album Love, Marriage & Divorce.
In 2013, he released a new song called "Hello How Are You" with Wiz Khalifa. The next year, he released another mixtape called V1bes. Leon has continued to produce music for other artists. He co-produced songs for Post Malone's album Stoney in 2016.
In 2018, Leon released his first EP (Extended Play) called Genesis. An EP is like a mini-album with fewer songs. The next year, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Song. This was for co-writing and co-producing "Gold Roses" by Rick Ross and Drake.
He has also co-written and co-produced songs for Ariana Grande's album Positions (2020) and Drake's album Certified Lover Boy (2021). In 2022, he signed a deal with Motown Records through Ty Dolla Sign's new label, EZMNY Records.
In 2024, Leon was one of the writers and producers for the song "Burn" by ¥$ (which is Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign). He also won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song for his work on SZA's hit song "Snooze".
