Leonard Everett Fisher (born June 24, 1924 – died March 2, 2024) was an amazing American artist. He was most famous for drawing pictures for children's books. From 1955, he illustrated about 250 books for young readers. He even wrote about 88 of those books himself!

A Life in Art

Fisher was born in the Bronx, a part of New York City, in June 1924. He grew up in a place called Sea Gate in Brooklyn.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he continued his art studies. His father, Benjamin M. Fisher, was also an artist. He designed parts for naval ships, like the USS Arizona and USS North Carolina.

Leonard Everett Fisher learned art from many talented teachers. He studied at the Heckscher Foundation and with famous artists like Moses and Raphael Soyer. He also went to the Art Students League of New York and Brooklyn College. Later, he graduated from Yale University with degrees in art.

Fisher lived in Westport, Connecticut, with his wife, Margery. She was a retired school librarian. They had three children and six grandchildren. Leonard Everett Fisher passed away on March 2, 2024, when he was 99 years old.
