Leonore is a small village located in LaSalle County, Illinois, United States. In 2020, about 121 people lived there. It is part of the larger Ottawa area.

History of Leonore

Leonore started out in the late 1880s with a different name: Gary. It was a stop on the Illinois Valley & Northern Railroad. But in 1889, the name had to change. This was because there was already a post office named Gary somewhere else. From a list of new names, "Leonore" was chosen as the favorite.

The village of Leonore officially became a village on April 20, 1891. This was confirmed a couple of months later, on June 15, 1891.

Geography of Leonore

Leonore is located in the southern part of LaSalle County. It is about 15 miles southwest of Ottawa, which is the main town of the county. It's also about 15 miles southeast of LaSalle.
