A Look Back in Time
Leuggelbach has a long history! We first hear about it way back in 1350. Back then, it was called Löckelbach.
Factories and Jobs
In the 1800s, many factories opened here. There was a factory that made calico, a type of cloth, which closed in 1930. Another factory that finished textiles (making them ready to use) closed in 1993. Today, only a paint and varnish factory remains, along with some smaller craft businesses.
Becoming Part of a Bigger Community
Leuggelbach used to be its own municipality (like a small town with its own government). But on July 1, 2006, it joined with the municipality of Haslen. Then, on January 1, 2011, Haslen itself joined with other towns to form the new, larger municipality of Glarus Süd.

There's also a railway line that runs next to the main road and the Linth river. The village has its own train station called Leuggelbach railway station. You can catch the Zürich S-Bahn service S25 here, which travels hourly between Linthal and Zurich.

The high mountain Klausen Pass is usually only open for cars and bikes from June to September. For the rest of the year, the main road and the railway line are the only ways to get to the village.
