The Lewis and Clark State Historic Site is a special place in Hartford, Illinois. It opened in 2002. This site helps us remember an important part of American history: the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It was here that the famous explorers, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, set up their winter camp called Camp River Dubois.

The explorers stayed at Camp River Dubois from December 1803 to May 1804. They prepared for their long journey across North America. The site is now managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. It is also known as Lewis and Clark State Park. It sits near the Mississippi River in Illinois.
