Lex is a small, unincorporated community located in McDowell County, West Virginia, in the United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live together, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.
Lex is found along West Virginia Route 80. It is about 1.3 miles (2.1 kilometers) north of another community called Bradshaw.
Naming Lex
The community of Lex got its name from an important person in its early days. This person was Elexious "Lex" Evans. He was an early postmaster for the area. A postmaster is the person in charge of a local post office. They make sure mail gets to everyone in the community.
