Liana Leota, whose maiden name was Barrett-Chase, was born on October 31, 1984. She is a talented netball player from New Zealand. Liana is famous for her amazing skills in the midcourt. She has played for New Zealand's national netball team, known as the Silver Ferns. She also plays professionally in the British Netball Superleague for the Severn Stars.

Liana Leota: A Netball Star
Liana Leota was born in Taihape, New Zealand. She grew up to become a well-known netball player. She is known for her quick moves and smart plays in the center and wing attack positions. These positions are very important for moving the ball around the court.
Starting Her Netball Journey
Liana began her professional netball career playing for the Western Flyers from 2003 to 2005. After that, she joined the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in 2006. In 2007, she played for the Southern Sting. With the Southern Sting, Liana helped her team win the National Bank Cup that year.
In 2008, a new league called the ANZ Championship started. Liana continued playing in Invercargill for the Southern Steel. She played for them until 2011. During the 2010 ANZ Championship season, Liana was recognized for her excellent performance. She received the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, which is a big honor. In 2011, Liana and Wendy Frew were chosen to be co-captains for the Southern Steel team.
Playing for New Zealand
Liana Leota made her debut for the Silver Ferns in 2008. This was a big moment in her career, as she played against Australia. Since then, she became a key player in the Silver Ferns' midcourt. She played for the national team until 2015.
Liana has won several medals representing New Zealand. She earned a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. She also won a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. In 2009, she won another gold medal at the World Netball Series in Manchester. This was for a faster version of netball called Fastnet.
Moving to the UK Netball League
After playing in New Zealand for many years, Liana decided to move to England. On October 27, 2015, she signed with the Netball Superleague team Manchester Thunder for the 2016 season. She had a very successful season with Manchester Thunder, helping them win the championship.
After her time with Manchester Thunder, Liana signed with the Severn Stars in September 2019. She continues to play for them in the British Netball Superleague.
Her Heritage
Liana Leota has a rich cultural background. She is of Ngāti Tūwharetoa and Ngāti Maniapoto descent. These are two important Māori tribes in New Zealand.
