Liana Leota (born 31 October 1984) is a famous New Zealand netball player. She is known for her amazing skills in the midcourt. Liana has played for the national netball team, called the Silver Ferns. She also plays for Severn Stars in the British Netball Superleague.

Liana's Early Netball Journey

Liana started her netball career with the Western Flyers from 2003 to 2005. She then played for the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in 2006. In 2007, she joined the Southern Sting. That year, her team won the National Bank Cup, which was a big achievement!

Joining the Southern Steel

After her success, Liana continued playing in Invercargill. She joined the Southern Steel when the new ANZ Championship started in 2008. She quickly became a key player for the team.

Becoming a Silver Fern

In 2008, Liana made her first appearance for the Silver Ferns. This is New Zealand's national netball team. She played against Australia and quickly showed her talent. Liana became a very important part of the Silver Ferns' midcourt.

Awards and Leadership

Liana's hard work paid off. In the 2010 ANZ Championship season, she won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. This award goes to the best player in the league. For the 2011 season, Liana and Wendy Frew were chosen as co-captains for the Southern Steel team.

Playing in the UK

In 2015, Liana decided to move to England to play netball. She signed with Manchester Thunder for the 2016 season. Her team had a fantastic year and won the championship! After this success, Liana joined Severn Stars in September 2019. She continues to play for them in the Netball Superleague.

Her Heritage

Liana Leota is proud of her Māori background. She is from the Ngāti Tūwharetoa and Ngāti Maniapoto tribes.
