The 2010 Commonwealth Games were a huge sports event. They were the 19th time these games were held. The city of New Delhi, India, hosted them from October 3 to 14, 2010.

This was the biggest sports event ever held in Delhi and India. India had hosted other big games before, like the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982. It was the first time the Commonwealth Games came to India. It was also only the second time they were held in Asia. The first time in Asia was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 1998.

The opening ceremony was at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. This was the main place for the games. Even though there were some worries before the games started, the event went very well. The opening ceremony was even called "spectacular"!

Choosing the Host City

Delhi was chosen to host the Commonwealth Games. They won against another city called Hamilton in Canada. The decision was made on November 14, 2003.

This was India's third time trying to host the games. They had tried before in 1990 and 1994 but didn't win. This time, they finally got to be the host city!
