Libertad is a small city located in the southern part of Uruguay. It's found in the San José Department. The city has a main street called 25 de Agosto and a central square named Plaza Treinta y Tres Orientales.

Libertad is easy to find! It's located right on Route 1, which is an important road in Uruguay. The city is about 50 kilometers (around 31 miles) away from Montevideo, the capital city of Uruguay.
A Look at Libertad's History
Libertad was first started in November 1872. Over the years, its official status changed as it grew.
- In 1902, it was officially declared a "Pueblo," which means a village.
- Then, in 1953, it became a "Villa," which is like a town.
- Finally, in 1963, Libertad was given the title of "Ciudad," meaning it became a city!

One important building in Libertad is the Parish Church of Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Isidore the Laborer. This is a Roman Catholic church. It is cared for by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
