Early Life and Education
Liesel Moak Skorpen was born in Germany on July 1, 1935. Her parents were Walter and Elizabeth Moak. When she was a child, her family moved to the United States.
She grew up and went to school in Cleveland, Ohio. Liesel later attended Wells College in Aurora, New York. After that, she continued her studies at Yale University.
Family and Moving to Maine
While studying philosophy at Yale University, Liesel met a scholar named Erling Skorpen. They fell in love and got married after he finished his Ph.D. in philosophy.
Liesel and Erling started their family in Nevada. They had seven children together. Two of their children were adopted, one from Korea and another from an Indian reservation. Later, after a sad loss of their young son, Per Anders, the family moved to Maine.

Liesel Moak Skorpen wrote many beloved children's books. Her stories are known for their gentle lessons and memorable characters.
