Lift was a popular type of soft drink made by The Coca-Cola Company. It was sold in many countries, including Australia, New Zealand, and Germany, starting in the 1970s. Lift was a fizzy drink, which means it had bubbles, and it was flavored with fruit juice. In Australia and New Zealand, the main flavor was lemon. But in Germany and some other places, it was usually apple flavored.
Lift Apple and Lift Lemon were once among eight international soda flavors. You could try them at a special place called Club Cool in Epcot.
History of Lift
Lift in Australia and New Zealand
Lift first came to Australia and New Zealand in the 1990s. It took the place of another drink called Mello Yello. Before Mello Yello, there was a drink called Leed Lemon Soda Squash in the early 1980s. This was a version of the Leed Lemonade brand.
For a long time, the only main flavor of Lift was lemon. In 2015, the drink was renamed Fanta Lemon Lift. Then, in 2016, it went back to being called Lift. At this time, its flavor was changed to be more sour.
Lift stopped being sold in Australia in September 2022. It was replaced by a new lemon-flavored Sprite that had caffeine. This new drink is called Sprite Lemon+. Coca-Cola Europacific Partners announced this change on September 13, 2022. There had been many rumors about it on social media for months.
Around the same time, rumors also spread that Lift would stop being sold in New Zealand. However, Coca-Cola made a statement saying that Lift would continue to be available in New Zealand.
Lift in Germany
Lift was first introduced in Germany in 1974. The original German version had lemon juice.
In Germany, a popular version is called Lift Apfelschorle. This drink is made with 55% apple juice and water, without extra flavors. There are also other types, like Lift Apfel and Grapefruit, which has both apple and grapefruit juice.
