Royal Tru, often just called Royal, is a popular fizzy fruit-flavored drink. It's only sold in the Philippines. The Coca-Cola Company owns this brand. Royal Tru started way back in 1922. It was first made by a company called San Miguel Brewery. Since 2007, when Coca-Cola bought it, Royal Tru has become like the Philippine version of Coca-Cola's Fanta drink.

The Story of Royal Tru
The Royal brand first appeared in 1922. It was the first non-alcoholic, fizzy drink made by the original San Miguel Brewery. A few years later, in 1927, San Miguel became the first company outside the United States to bottle Coca-Cola. Royal Tru-Orange, with its yummy orange flavor, became the most famous Royal drink.
In 1981, San Miguel created a new company just for its soft drink business. This new company was called Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines, Inc. (CCBPI). It was a partnership with The Coca-Cola Company. San Miguel still owned the Royal brand until 2007. That year, San Miguel sold its share in CCBPI and the rights to the Royal brand to The Coca-Cola Company.
Later, in 2013, CCBPI changed its name to Coca-Cola FEMSA Philippines, Inc. This happened when a Mexican company called FEMSA joined in. Then, in 2018, the company changed its name again to Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines, Inc. (CCBPI). This was after another company, Bottling Investments Group (BIG), bought half of it.

How Royal Tru Is Advertised
Royal Tru usually tries to reach teenagers as its main customers. In the 1970s, the drink came in single bottles. It even had tiny bits of orange pulp from California oranges inside!
When San Miguel Corporation helped start the Philippine Basketball Association in 1975, their basketball team played under the name "Royal Tru-Orange." They used this name from 1975 to 1980.
In the mid-1980s, Royal Tru-Orange got a lot of attention. They changed their logo and the drink's recipe (it no longer had orange pulp). This was part of a big advertising campaign. A teen model named RJ Ledesma starred in the ads, playing a character named "Joey." The first television advertisement in this series was directed by a famous film director, Lino Brocka. In the ad, Joey's friends encouraged him to talk to a girl named Jenny.
In 1992, Royal Tru-Orange launched a new slogan: "Ito Ang Gusto Ko!" This phrase was also a song by the late Filipino rapper Francis Magalona.
