Wang Linkai (Chinese: 王琳凯), born on May 20, 1999, is a talented Chinese rapper and singer-songwriter. Many people know him by his stage name, Xiao Gui (Chinese: 小鬼), which means Lil Ghost in English.

He first became famous in 2017 when he joined a hip-hop music show called "The Rap of China". He did very well, making it into the top 70 contestants in China, and that's how he started his career in entertainment. In 2018, he joined the Chinese boy group Nine Percent after being a contestant on the survival show Idol Producer.

Xiao Gui has won several awards for his music. In 2018, he was named "Best New Musician" at the Chinese Music Festival, and his song "Good Night" won the "Golden Melody of the Year" award. He released his first album with Nine Percent called "TO THE NINES" in November 2018. The group officially finished their activities in October 2019. Since 2020, he has also been a producer on the Mango TV rap show "Listen Up". He is known for using rap to share his musical ideas.

About Wang Linkai

Wang Linkai was born in Haiyang City, Yantai, Shandong Province. He grew up in Xiamen City, Fujian Province. He is currently studying at Beijing Contemporary Music Academy.

His father was a military officer, and his mother was part of the army's art group. Because of this, Wang Linkai spent his early years growing up in the army. He became interested in hip-hop music when he was around 12 or 13 years old. He was so passionate about dance that he once snuck out late at night to practice!

In 2017, Wang Linkai joined the hip-hop show "The Rap of China" on iQiyi. Later that year, he signed a contract with Guoran Sky, a talent agency. In January 2018, he took part in the reality show "Idol Producer". He finished in eighth place and became a member of the popular group Nine Percent.

His Music Journey

Starting Out: 2016–2017

Wang Linkai began his career as a trainee with Gramarie Entertainment. He first gained attention by joining The Rap of China in 2016. In 2017, he appeared in a music video for Will Pan, who was a judge on the show. He also released his first song, "Bingo!Ca$h", with another artist named Zhu Xingjie.

Rising to Fame: 2018

He became very popular after joining the survival show Idol Producer. He finished in 8th place with over 7.8 million votes and officially debuted as a member of the Chinese boy band Nine Percent.

Solo Career: 2019

After Nine Percent, Xiao Gui started focusing on his solo music. He was a regular on an iQiyi reality show called "青春的花路". In May, he won "Best Newcomer Artist of 2018" and "Most Popular Artist of 2018" at The Music Pioneer Chart's awards. On May 20, he released his first solo music collection, an EP called "Lil Ghost 2.0". Nine Percent officially disbanded on October 6, and Xiao Gui performed with the group one last time in Guangzhou on October 12.

What He Did in 2020

In March 2020, Xiao Gui appeared on the Zhejiang Satellite TV music show "Sound from Heaven". In June, he joined the fifth season of "Rap and Listen to Me" and "The King of Cross-Boundary Songs". He also took part in a reality show about learning to drive called "Novice Arrives" in August. In October, he was an "expansionist" on the Aichi Arts show "Cross-Dimensional Rising Star". In November, he joined Oriental TV's music show "China Dream Voice Our Song Season 2".

What He Did in 2021

In 2021, Xiao Gui released new songs that were very well-received, including a punk version of "Don't Call Me Da Vinci" and a remix of "Mood" (originally by 24KGoldn & Iann Dior). After these successful releases, he started his first national music tour.

Helping Others

Wang Linkai also uses his fame to help others through charity work.

  • On April 28, 2018, the group Nine Percent donated 2 million RMB (about $280,000 USD) to the "Beijing Hanhong Love Charity Foundation".
  • On February 9, 2020, during the start of the novel coronavirus outbreak, Wang Linkai personally donated 200,000 RMB (about $28,000 USD) to hospitals in Xianfeng County and Badong County.
  • On July 21, 2021, when heavy rain caused floods in Henan Province, Wang Linkai donated 200,000 yuan to the Red Cross Society of Zhengzhou to help those affected.
