Early Life and Education
Lilia Merodio studied business administration at the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez. She finished her studies in 2001. After college, she started working in public service.
Starting in Public Service
From 2001 to 2002, Lilia Merodio led the Water and Sanitation Board in Ciudad Juárez. This board helps make sure people have clean water. She also served on the city council from 2002 to 2004. A city council is a group of people who make decisions for a city.
She also worked with university students in a group called the Professional Forum. From 2004 to 2006, she was in charge of human resources for the city. This means she helped manage the city's employees.
Serving in the Chamber of Deputies
In 2006, people in the Second District of Chihuahua elected Lilia Merodio to the Chamber of Deputies. This is like one part of the Mexican Congress, where laws are made. She served there until 2009.
While in the Chamber of Deputies, she was a leader for her political party, the PRI. She also worked on several important committees. Running for Governor
Between December 2015 and January 2016, Lilia Merodio took a break from the Senate. She wanted to run for governor of Chihuahua. However, another person from her party was chosen instead.
She was temporarily replaced by another politician, Adriana Terrazas Porras. Lilia Merodio then joined the campaign of the chosen candidate. She helped connect his campaign with those of other politicians running for state and local offices.
