Lillian Lehman was born in Oak Hill, Alabama. Her father was a Lutheran minister. When she was five years old, her family moved to Buffalo, New York.
Lillian went to Kent State University. While she was there, she was named "actress of the year." Later, she earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in theatre from California State University, Northridge. She also became a professor of theatre there.
