Lim Hye-sook (Korean: 임혜숙; Hanja: 林惠淑) is a brilliant Korean professor. She specializes in electronics engineering. She taught at Ewha Womans University. From May 2021 to May 2022, she served as the Minister of Science and ICT for South Korea. She was the very first woman to lead the country's science ministry.

Education and Early Career
Learning About Engineering
Lim Hye-sook studied engineering at top universities. She earned her first two degrees from Seoul National University. These were in Control and Instrumentation engineering. Later, she received her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. Her Ph.D. was in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Working in Technology
Before becoming a professor, Lim Hye-sook worked in the tech world. She worked at a company called Samsung-HP. This was a joint company between Samsung and HP. After getting her Ph.D., she worked at Bell Labs and Cisco Systems. These are well-known technology companies.
Leadership and Achievements
Teaching at Ewha Womans University
Lim Hye-sook started teaching at Ewha Womans University in 2002. She became a full professor in 2011. She held many important roles at the university. She led the Department of Electronics Engineering. She was also the associate dean and later the dean of the College of Engineering.
Leading in Science and Technology
In 2020, Lim Hye-sook made history. She was chosen to lead the Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers. She was the first woman to hold this position in over 70 years.
She also led the National Research Council of Science and Technology. This council oversees 25 government research centers. These centers include places like the Korea Institute of Science and Technology. She was the youngest person and the first woman to lead this council.
Joining Space Exploration Efforts
In May 2021, Lim Hye-sook signed the Artemis Accord. This agreement means South Korea officially joined a moon exploration project. Nine other countries are also part of this exciting project.
Awards and Recognition
Lim Hye-sook has received several important awards for her work:
- Science and Technology Medal (2020): This award came from the government of South Korea.
- Stars in Computer Networking and Communications (2019): This was given by an organization called N2Women.
