Lim Rock, also known as Limrock, Lime Rock, Boyds Switch, or Boyd Switch, is a small place in southern Jackson County, Alabama, United States. It's called an unincorporated community because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the county. You can find Lim Rock on Alabama State Route 35, right in the middle of Scottsboro and Woodville.
A Look Back: Lim Rock's History
How Lim Rock Got Its Name
Long ago, this community was first called Boyd Switch. It was named after a local businessman, John Boyd, who was a merchant. A merchant is someone who buys and sells goods. This spot was also a stop on the Southern Railway, which was a big train line.
Later, the name of the community changed to Lim Rock. This happened because a local citizen gave money to the Methodist church. They made a special request that the community's name be changed to Lim Rock as part of their gift.
Post Office History
Lim Rock also had its own post office for many years. It first operated under the name Boyd Switch from 1870 to 1882. Then, after the name change, it was known as the Lim Rock post office from 1882 until 1956. This means people in the community could send and receive mail right there for a long time.
