Liminka (also called Limingo in Swedish) is a town in the Northern Ostrobothnia region of Finland. It is located about 25 kilometers (15 miles) south of the city of Oulu.
As of 31 December 2023, Liminka is home to about 10,256 people. The town covers an area of 651.71 square kilometres (251.63 sq mi), with 14.54 km2 (5.61 sq mi) of that being water. This means there are about 16.09 inhabitants per square kilometre (41.7/sq mi) people living in each square kilometer. Liminka shares its borders with several other towns, including Kempele, Lumijoki, Muhos, Oulunsalo, Siikajoki, Siikalatva, Tyrnävä, and Vaala.
One of the most special places in Liminka is the Liminganlahti Bay. It is a very important home for many different kinds of birds.

Liminka was officially founded in the year 1477. That's over 500 years ago! There's a fun story about how Liminka got its name. People say it comes from a giant named Limmi who lived in the area long ago.
