Rise in Horror and Comedy

In 1984, Shaye played a teacher in the classic horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street. This movie was made by her brother's company, New Line Cinema. She later joked that her family connection helped her get the part.

Her big break in comedy came in 1994 with the movie Dumb and Dumber. She played the funny character Mrs. Neugeboren. The movie was a huge hit and is still loved by fans today. After this, the directors, the Farrelly brothers, cast her in more of their films.

In the 1998 comedy There's Something About Mary, she played Magda, a character with a very deep tan. Shaye said it took four hours of makeup each time to get the look right. The movie was a big success, and Shaye was nominated for a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for her performance.
